Haro has woven his plot to lead the reader, backwards, down a path that passes through varied places and ages. The long-lived characters allude to specific moments from their personal histories, marking the plot’s reach into the distant past. At the same time, the story remains firmly rooted in the present, touching on themes such as global warming and the specter of climatic catastrophe.
As the plot develops against this expansive backdrop, the values which emerge stand out as something ancient, in sharp contrast to savagely consumption-obsessed mores. Terms and protocols highlight the codes of honor and the “rules of play” between friends and foes.
Haro leaves out no detail in describing locations, landscapes, foods, art works, costumes, and physical features; he extends an invitation for complete absorption in each moment and in every situation. The reader is spurred to look at the horizon and discover its colors; to make out the brightness of the moonlight; to see in detail a teardrop crossing a cheek, the way a hand is extended, a beard is stroked, or a meal is polished off.

I bought the book the first time it came out, I am architect and therefore I must say, that Rexagenas is the best book ever of how it would really be if vampires and werewolves were alive and survived all this time, how many works of art would be in their possession, the real Gioconda, not the one that is in the louvre, how immense their wealthy will be, in properties and bank accounts.
